Roundup: Haas fires 66 at Legends of Golf

Leader surprised after missing cut at PGA Tour event

SAVANNAH, GA. - Jay Haas, seeking his first win of the season, breezed to a two-stroke lead Friday in the first round of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

Haas, who splits his time between the Champions Tour and the regular PGA Tour, shot a 6-under-par 66 at The Club at Savannah Harbor. Mark McNulty, Tom Wargo, Jerry Pate and Gil Morgan each shot 68s over the wind-swept, 7,087-yard island layout in the middle of the Savannah River.

"I'm a little surprised, to tell you the truth," said Haas, who missed the cut last weekend at the Verizon Heritage, a PGA Tour event at nearby Hilton Head, S.C. "I hadn't been playing that well lately."

Haas started fast with a wedge to within 5 feet for birdie at the first hole, chipped in for birdie at the par-5 fourth, blasted from a greenside bunker to inside 3 feet for birdie at No. 11 and rolled in putts of 19 and 23 feet for birdies at Nos. 14 and 15.

In other tournaments
• Webb stays hot, trails by 2 — Karrie Webb picked right up where she left off at her last tournament.
Looking again like a dominating force on the LPGA Tour, Webb followed her win in the first major of the year — the Kraft Nabisco Championship — with a second straight 5-under 67, leaving her two strokes off the lead in the Florida's Natural Charity Championship.

Sung Ah Yim charged to the top with a 64 at Eagle's Landing Country Club south of Atlanta, pushing her 36-hole total to a 12-under 132.

• Stenson holds le ad — Sweden's Henrik Stenson held his one stroke lead at the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai, China, after the second round was suspended by rain.

Singh defeated Canadian Mike Weir in a three-hole playoff last year at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont.
Weir, from Bright's Grove, Ont., also will tee it up at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver from Sept 5-11, along with 2005 Masters runner-up Chris DiMarco of the United States.
The list of confirmed players includes Australia's Stuart Appleby, England's Justin Rose, Japan's Shigeki Maruyama, South Africa's Tim Clark, K.J. Choi of South Korea, Sweden's Jesper Parnevik and Americans Fred Funk and Hank Kuehne.
'We are extremely excited to welcome such phenomenal athletes and PGA champions to the 2005 Bell Canadian Open,' tournament director Bill Paul said in a statement.
Exemptions have been extended to veteran golfer Richard Zokol of Surrey, B.C., and amateur James Lepp of Abbottsford, B.C.
Singh has four victories and 13 top-10 finishes in 22 events this season.
Weir will attempt to become the first Canadian golfer since Pat Fletcher in 1954 to win this country's national open.
At last year's tourney, he entered Sunday's fourth round with a three-stroke advantage over Singh the world's top-ranked golfer at the time. But Singh wouldn't go away.

Khaleej Times Online: "Golf competition winner
By A Correspondent

DUBAI Tiger Woods victory at the recent British Open also meant great news for one Hans Rittinghausen, who subsequently became the winner of 25 rounds of golf at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa.
The competition, in which the main aim was to correctly guess the winner of The Open, was part the Energizer-sponsored coverage of the British Open on Dubai Eyes Legends Programme. The coverage saw live reports from presenter Deano Hopewell, who was at the Golf in Dubai stand at Royal St Andrews to keep Dubai residents up to date on the four days of action.
It was the most entered competition on Dubai Eye and the station was overwhelmed with text messages from listeners who sent in their predictions in the hope of winning the 25 nine-hole rounds of golf on the spectacular Resort Course, inclusive of cart hire.
As James Williams of the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa handed over the prize to a thrilled Rittinghausen, Paul Scott, Sales & Marketing Manager of Energizer, said they are delighted to promote sport in the region. "

Douglas Kemp's Web Development Portal

Google Search Engine

Google is becoming the standard for locating information on the web. I have long been interested in why google places such emphasis on some sites and so little on others. This blog may have nothing to do with Google in so far as the main subject is about golf tours. But I feel that google is a fantastic resource in terms of finding travel and accommodation on the web. Just think about where you want to go and "googleit" all our websites have been built acording to Googles webmaster specifications. Golf Tour and Boundless journeys Golf Tours support plain text links that allow the pages to be read by all search engines. (So my web developer tells me)
